Turbo is a character featured in the 1993 Disney educational animated short Recycle Rex.

Background[]

Personality[]

Turbo is shown to be good friends with a group of dinosaur children led by Rex. Everywhere Rex leads them, she follows to wherever he goes, especially when it comes to them trying to find a solution in keeping the Earth clean. When she and the rest of Rex's friends arrived at the big city at the Dino Store, Turbo and the rest of Rex's friends become inspired to help recycle and keep the planet clean, causing Turbo and the others to show good citizenship in taking care of the planet through the recycling method.

Physical appearance[]

Turbo is a yellow diminutive-sized pterosaur - more specifically a Pteranodon with four claws sticking out of her wings. She also has a pair of white eyes appearing on top of her head - each with three eyelashes. She also wears a pair of dark brown sneakers located on the below of her torso.

Role in the short[]

When Rex is talking to his friends on a field, Turbo tells him that he would play soccer and many other sports within, just before feeling exhausted and landing on Edsel's head. followed by Tucker telling his friends that he would use his Book of Everything to suggest a good name for the field they are present, much to Knock and Ping's jealousness. As Tucker is suggesting what field his friends should name, Turbo suggests that the field be named after her. Amongst one of the garbage dumped by the engineer is a Mr. Happy Guy doll which Turbo recently threw away, just as Ethel tells him that there is another solution and compromise for cleaning up the mess he put. This, however, inspires Rex and his friends to take out the trash without throwing it away so that the engineer won't have to start dumping the trash on the field. While discussing, Rex suggests his friends to find some place a town where they can get rid of the trash.

As Rex and his friends arrive at the big city, Turbo, Edsel, and Ethel become distracted in trying to find a snack at the Dino Store as they rush inside, much to Rex's worry of telling his team to stay focused. Turbo flies inside and finds a table full of free samples - only to for the product itself to contain large amounts of junk in it, followed by Tucker and Edsel who react to the same thing she had.

Later, Rex, Turbo, and the rest of Rex's friends are having a problem with the garbage they have. This leads Rex to find a solution to get rid of the garbage, just as he sees a recycle symbol on a bottle, which Turbo and Ethel explain that they should learn how to reuse, especially with all the junk. Rex later inspires Turbo and the rest of his friends to teach them the importance of recycling. Turbo then appears in the musical sequence "Close the Loop", where Rex teaches his friends the importance of recycling. She is last seen at the baseball field with the rest of Rex's friends playing baseball just before Rose encourages them the importance of recycling so that they can help clean the Earth.

Trivia[]

  • Turbo's name shares the same pronunciation as "pterodactyl", due to both words being phonetically pronounced in the English language - specifically the "t" being phonetic ("pterodactyl" has a silent "p" at the beginning when pronounced).
  • She is the only member of Rex's friends who is capable of flying - a common characteristic for most pterosaurs.
  • Most scenes where Turbo interacts with the Mr. Happy Guy doll consistently depict its head colored pink; however, during the scene where she grabs it again during the part where the engineer dumps the trash, it is miscolored orange as the result of an animation error.
  • At one point, the engineer calls Turbo "birdie"; pterosaurs in real life are not closely related to avians at all, due to them being part of their own species category.
