Star Command SC-01 Exploration Vessel (better known as the "Turnip") is a large spaceship that appears in 2022 Disney/Pixar animated film, Lightyear.

Background[]

The ship is called the Turnip due to its root vegetable-like appearance. It had hyperspeed capabilities before it was damaged, and could transport a crew of 1,200. During one of its voyages, Buzz was awoken from hypersleep, when sensors detected an uncharted planet. The Turnip took a detour to explore this planet known as T'Kani Prime. However, during the exhibition, the ship was attacked by giant vines that tried to pull it into the ground. Buzz was able to get the ship into the air before it went completely under, but during the titlted launch trajectory, the Turnip collided into a mountain before crashing back into the ground. The Turnip suffered severe damage. Its hyperspeed crystal was totally destroyed, leaving the crew marooned on T'Kani Prime.

In a year, the Turnip was turned up right and repaired while the crew worked on creating a new hyperspeed crystal using the planet's resources. Buzz personally tested the fuel in small hyperspeed ships. But everytime he traveled through hyperspeed he skipped four years into the future. In eighty-nine years, the crew of the Turnip formed a colony around the ship while the ship remained grounded.

Trivia[]

  • The lettering on the Turnip "S.C.01 T.S." is short for "Star Command number 1 Toy Story".
