"Unexpected Ally" is the first segment of the twenty-second episode of Miles from Tomorrowland. It premiered on September 26, 2015 alongside "Skyrise".

Plot[]

Outside the workshop, Miles and M.E.R.C. are wondering what new upgrades will be installed to the Photon Flyer. Miles thinks it is super-charged turbo-blastic boosters when Leo, who is the one responsible for upgrading the ship, says multi-layer insulation. Leo tells him that the new insulation will keep Miles cool the next time he zips too close to a star. Leo activates the insulation mode, impressing Miles. When insulation mode is activated, the ride will not overheat. Miles and M.E.R.C. decide to give it a try.

So far, they are enjoying the ride until a ship turns off its invisibility, and catches the Photon Flyer in a tow beam. Leo follows Miles and M.E.R.C. into the ship right before its doors close. Miles, Leo, and M.E.R.C. wonder where they are when someone pops in, telling the visitors that they are not invited, and her Fuzzies agree. Leo believes that this is some kind of misunderstanding, and the person and her Fuzzies like the ship they stole. Miles states that that is his ship, but the person says that that is her ship, and tells the Fuzzies to hit the red button and open the chute. They do so, causing Miles, Leo, and M.E.R.C. to be ejected from the ship, which then leaves. Leo assumes that that was not the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

With the Callistos gathered on the bridge, Captain Joe tells them that they just met Dibblex, who stole one of the TTA's asteroid movers as well as Miles' Photon Flyer. Joe states that Dibblex goes for shiny things, and since the Photon Flyer has some insulation, the ship is included. Dibblex also likes bling on a criminal level. Her ship gets powered by light, which means the more sparkly stuff she collects, the faster it goes. The ship also reflects the light, which causes the ship to go faster. Joe continues by saying that since they found Dibblex, he will work with the Callistos to get the Photon Flyer back. However, there is a problem.

Joe brought Gadfly into the Stellosphere. This is because Joe nabbed Gadfly when he got called. There is no time to drop him off, or they might miss Dibblex. Gadfly will be on his best behavior because if he flies too high or attempts to escape, his boot-clamp will attach him to the surface. Joe decides to take Gadfly away, but Gadfly decides to help the Callistos catch Dibblex because he is trying to turn over a new leaf. Gadfly also reveals that all space thieves go to the same bad guy parties. After Gadfly pleads to help the Callistos, Leo and Phoebe agree to let Gadfly have a chance, as long as he follows their rules.

Gadfly reveals that Dibblex's next location is the Karatum moon. This is not just any moon, it is made of diamond. If Dibblex gets her hands on something that reflective, she will be unstoppable. The Callistos then set course for that location, while Gadfly gives Phoebe her Quantumatic before being told to wait the trip in the hangar.

Miles gives Gadfly a snack and also tells him cosmic explorer rule #5: be nice to everyone in space. Shortly afterwards, Phoebe informs Miles that they have arrived at Karatum. Stella also detected Dibblex's asteroid mover, which has an invisibility shield on. Miles decides to use Dad's multi-layer insulation to cover the Star Jetter so that Dibblex is given another sparkly target. If that happens, she will turn off her invisibility shield and open the doors. Joe will follow the Callistos with his SpaceGuard cruiser.

Once the Callistos leave, Gadfly decides to wait it out. However, Gadfly sees a blast-jet, and says that space thief rule #57 is finders keepers. Gadfly reveals that the blast-jet is more powerful than a boot-clamp, and leaves the Stellosphere. Meanwhile, once the Star Jetter gets close enough, the asteroid mover's invisibility shields turn off and catch the ship in a tow beam. The SpaceGuard cruiser follows it into the ship. Joe questions if it is a starship or a garage sale before he and the Callistos are confronted by Dibblex, who says that no one is allowed to see the sparklies. Phoebe tells her that she has something that belongs to Miles, not to mention the TTA. Dibblex does not know any of these, but Miles decides to go for his Photon Flyer. The Fuzzies decide to make another attempt to hit the red button and open the chute, but M.E.R.C. activates his wing shields to prevent that. Joe catches Dibblex, and tells her that once they catch Gadfly, they will place both behind some shiny bars.

The ships leave the asteroid mover, and inside the Photon Flyer, Miles and M.E.R.C. see Gadfly escaping. Miles informs everyone else of such, and Phoebe tells him to be careful. Gadfly tries to escape, but his boot-clamp is delaying his progress. Eventually, it causes Gadfly to temporarily lose his blast-jet function. Miles saves him by attaching his Blastbuckle tether to Gadfly just as Gadfly falls off. Gadfly questions why Miles is saving him. As Miles retrieves the blast-jet, it gets activated, and Miles is hanging off one of its straps while the other is stuck on a ledge. M.E.R.C. catches the tether attached to Gadfly, and lets Gadfly down slowly. Gadfly catches the top strap of the blast-jet just as it falls off the ledge. The SpaceGuard Cruiser and the Star Jetter arrive, and the Callistos and Joe question where Miles is. Gadfly pulls the blast-jet and Miles up, and Miles tells everyone that Gadfly saved him. Joe states that he has heard everything. Gadfly questions if Joe does not know the cosmic explorer rule he learned, which is to be nice to everyone in space. Joe tells Gadfly that he can tell him all about it in jail. Joe and Gadfly then head to the SpaceGuard cruiser, which leaves the moon.

Loretta wonders if this was all an act or if Gadfly really changed. Even though Gadfly knows Miles' name, Phoebe concludes that it will be a long time before she invites him aboard the Stellosphere. Speaking of which, Leo's Quantumatic is missing. Gadfly is revealed to have stolen it while in the SpaceGuard cruiser, only for Dibblex to steal it because she thinks it is shiny, upsetting Gadfly.
