On August 11, 2024, it was announced at D23 Disney Experiences Showcase that a Coco-themed attraction would be coming to Disney California Adventure in addition to a new area inspired by the film itself being built. The concept art revealed during the D23 Expo after that the ride itself will be a boat ride inspired by classic Disney attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean or the Haunted Mansion, albeit with a different theme to match the attraction's Day of the Dead theme. It was also revealed by chairman Josh D'Amaro that the ride would include Audio-Animatronics within - albeit in a unique way with modern technology. However, D'Amaro did not announce the exact location of the ride within the area. It was then revealed that construction was expected to begin in 2026.[1]
Attraction summary[]
The attraction will serve as a dark ride via boat taking guests on a journey across the Land of the Dead following Miguel's adventure within the world. In addition to Miguel appearing in the ride, guests will encounter other characters in the ride such as Héctor, Dante, Pepita, and many others, as they travel across the Land of the Dead with music from the film itself played throughout the ride.
