"Up the Apple Tree" is the first half of the first episode in the first season of Stanley.
Summary[]
Stanley tries get an apple down from a tree as a birthday present for his mom.
Plot[]
Stanley is sleeping in bed, but immediately gets surprised when Lionel wakes him up looking for tape to wrap a birthday present for Mom. It seems Stanley's completely forgotten his mother's birthday and immediately gets out of bed.
Now in serious need of a present, he wakes up his goldfish, Dennis and asks him for help. Dennis agrees to help him out if Stanley gives him his breakfast first. Stanley does so, but finds he's all out of fish food. He then sees there's another container in the closet, but it's on a really high shelf and he's not able to reach it. His mom then comes in to give him a helping hand. This gives Stanley a chance to tell her Happy Birthday before she leaves.
After giving Dennis his breakfast, Stanley tries to think of a good present for his mom. He knows that she likes his dad and working as a dentist, but then remembers that she also loves apples. So after getting dressed, he and Dennis go out to the backyard, but soon finds himself with another problem: getting the apple down from the tree. First, he tries to climb the tree, but it's too high. So instead, he decides to have it come down to the ground. He tries shaking the tree, but it's too strong. Dennis suggests that maybe an elephant could help. Like an elephant (which would end up breaking the tree) or a cat like Elsie (which she refuses as she's not good at climbing back down). Stanley wonders if he could get the apple down himself if he had long elastic arms, telescopic legs, or a really long neck. The last one gives him an idea: a giraffe.
Stanley then brings out The Great Big Book of Everything for help. The giraffe comes out of the book, but while it is tall enough to reach the apple, it also plans to eat the apple itself. So Stanley sends it back to the book. However, the giraffe did give him an idea. By using several things from the garden shed and attaching them together, Stanley plans to use them to reach the apple. However it still isn't high enough to reach. Just then, his mother comes out and lifts him up. Once he gets the apple, Stanley gives her the apple and she thanks him for it.
That night, Stanley is heading to bed, feeling proud. Not only did he learn about giraffes, but also learned that you don't have to be big, as long as you can think big.
