Upelkuchen is a special cake that exists in Underland. When someone eats it, it makes them grow to a certain size depending on the amount ingested, as seen in the 2010 film, Alice in Wonderland.
Background
When someone eats an Upelkuchen cake, they will grow to a certain size that is determined by the amount of the cake that was ingested. The more an Upelkuchen cake is eaten, the more whoever ate it will grow.
In terms of appearance, there is nothing in an Upelkuchen cake that indicates that it is a magical cake. They are generally tasty-looking and the one Alice Kingsleigh found out in the Room of Doors even had an inviting "Eat Me" written on it.
Recipe
Linda Woolverton's first draft of the screenplay of the film has the White Queen preparing for Alice Upelkuchen instead of Pishalver. The recipe of both of them share some similar ingredients. The recipe for Upelkuchen is:
- Two cups of flour
- One cup of sugar
- A pinch of fungas
- Worm fat
- Tongue of blowfish
- A pinch of thyme
- Three coins from a dead man's pocket
- Two table-spoons of Wishful Thinking
Both recipes ends up with The White Queen spitting into the mixed ingredients.
Appearances
Alice in Wonderland
After Alice drank the Pishalver and got small, she was unable to reach for the key on the table. She then found out an Upelkuchen cake with "Eat Me" written on it and ate a small part of it. She grew up enormously, to the point of reaching the ceiling of the Room of Doors. Later, in the Red Queen's castle, the White Rabbit gave to her a piece of an Upelkuchen cake he had with him. Alice once again ate a part of it, but this time she grew up to such an enormous height that her clothes got torn apart, leaving her completely naked.
