What's up, guys? Tigerfan45 here and I'm back again. Today, we will be taking a look at the films of the Disney Renaissance. Now keep in mind though, this is my own personal opinion.

The Little Mermaid[]

Mermaid345

Life is the Bubbles Under The Sea.

Here it is, the film that kicked off this era, The Little Mermaid. It should be known as this, especially considering that it beat Don Bluth's All Dogs Go To Heaven at the box office. As for me, I think it's just good. I will admit that the animation is very good. I also really like the songs in this, for example, "Under the Sea" is very catchy. Ursula is also a really great villain. She reminded me a lot of Professor Ratigan from The Great Mouse Detective. I also think that Flounder, Sebastian, and Scuttle make very good comic relief. I'm guessing that my only major problem with The Little Mermaid is that our main characters are undeveloped. I mean, the majority of the character development in this movie goes to King Triton. In fact, I kinda wish this movie was more about him. But, it doesn't ruin the movie for me that much. Overall, I don't think that The Little Mermaid is a classic by any means, but, it is good. I'd say it is definitely worth a watch.

The Rescuers Down Under[]

TRDU

G'day, Mate!

Why isn't this movie praised more? I'm not kidding. We need to up the DVD sales on this movie. It's awesome! The animation is gorgeous, particularly with the flying scenes. It also helps that the jokes are very funny. Plus, the characters are very likable. I really liked Bernard, Bianca, and Wilbur in particular in this movie. The voice acting in this movie is also very good, particularly John Candy and George C. Scott. Folks, we have to increase the attention amount this movie gets. Check it out. It will not disappoint.

Beauty and the Beast[]

BATB

Tale As Old as Time

And now we come to the only hand-drawn animated film to be nominated for best picture. Beauty and the Beast is my second favorite Disney movie. And it's not very hard to see why. The songs are great (I mean, Be Our Guest is an awesome song)! The characters are very likable, even though the beast is a jerk at first. Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Mrs. Potts are very good at both making Belle feel at home and trying to get the Beast to behave himself. Speaking of Belle, she is one of the best Disney leading ladies ever! She's beautiful, She's smart, she's nice, and she's fun! Gaston is a very good villain, and his abuse of Lefou always gets a laugh. The movie is also one of the best-looking hand-drawn animated Disney movies. No wonder this was nominated for Best Picture. Overall, I think Beauty and the Beast is wonderful. I'd say go see it, but, pft. Who hasn't?

Aladdin[]

Aladdin123

Come on down, stop on by, hop a carpet and fly to another Arabian Night! (I know I did)!

I remember Aladdin being another one of four Disney movies I would watch over and over again at my grandma (on my dad's side)'s house. The others being Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Fantasia. I also remember when I was in second grade receiving this movie on DVD. There's a lot of good stuff in Aladdin. For example, the animation in this movie is very good, even if some character designs and angles look kinda Wierd. Jafar was a very well-done villain, especially with his voice actor, Jonathan Freeman. Aladdin and Jasmine have a very interesting romance because they have actual chemistry. They also try to relate to each other and they try to solve each other's problems. The songs in this movie are also very great. My favorite song would have to be "Friend like Me", sung by the Genie. Speaking of which, the Genie is my favorite character! He is so hilarious! And, who better to voice him than Robin Williams? Every second Genie is in screen, he cracks me up! Speaking of comedy, Iago is pretty funny when he yells and Abu is funny when he tries to steal. I don't really know what more I can say about Aladdin. I say definitely give it a watch.

The Lion King[]

TLK

Oh, I Just Can't Wait To See King!

Aw Yeah! Greatest Movie in the universe! As many of you know, The Lion King is both my favorite Disney animated movie and my favorite movie in general. I've praised this movie many times on my blog, so I'm gonna try not to say too much that I haven't said before. One of the various things I love about this movie is the setting. Yes, it is because I am a huge fan of the African Savannah, but this is also because this has to be the first ever Disney Movie set in Africa, whereas most previous Disney movies were set mostly in either Europe, the United States, or Asia. It also helps that the animation in this movie really captures the African atmosphere of the film. Speaking of the animation, I think that The Lion King is the best-looking hand-drawn animated Disney film ever! To top it all off, the characters are memorable! Simba is very interesting and fun to watch, particularly as a cub. Mufasa is a very likable character when you see how good of a father and king he is. The hyenas are always very funny, especially when Ed makes fun of Banzai when he gets hurt. Timon and Pumbaa make great comic relief. Scar is also a very well-written villain. He didn't do what he did simply because he's evil; he really does feel that he's been slighted when Simba was born. Another thing I love about this movie is the songs. Every single one I have on my iPod. They are also very good at portraying what mood they are supposed to portray. "I Just Can't Wait To Be King" and "Hakuna Matata" are a lot of fun, "Be Prepared" is catchy and diabolical, "Circle of Life" is grand and majestic, and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" is soothing and romantic. I've talked about it before in the past, I don't even know what more to say about it. I love it. I've seen it a million times and I'm gonna watch it a million times more.

Pocahontas[]

Pocahontas56

Pocahontas

I remember when I was a little kid, I really loved Pocahontas. Though I will admit that the novelty is kinda wearing off as I grow older. Unlike The Lion King, which only gets better and better, as I grow older, I do see more of the flaws in Pocahontas. For example, this one kinda falls a little flat on the song front. "Virginia Company" is kind of forgettable. "Savages" is a little too racist for me to call it a hood Disney Villain Song. Pocahontas herself isn't particularly that interesting a character. I honestly don't even think that she gets that much development as a character. Ratcliffe is a very weak villain. He's just your typical "Greedy leader who won't listen" type of villain; not really much to his character. And of course, I don't like how the animal's don't talk. I really wish they did talk. However, there are some things I do like about the movie. For example, the animation looks very good. Also, "Colors of the Wind" is a really good song. I will make no comment about the historical accuracy of this movie, because we all know that kids will eventually learn the true story. So, while I don't like it as much as when I was a kid, I still do like it.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame[]

Hunchback123

Yes, I can sing the bells of Notre Dame.

While Pocahontas was financially successful, the reviews for it were kinda mixed. The Hunchback of Notre Dame didn't gross any more than Pocahontas, but it did get better reviews. As for me, I really like it. I'd say this is my third favorite Disney film. The animation in this movie is really good, particularly on Notre Dame itself. Esmeralda is a very likable character and Phoebus gets a good line here and there. The gargoyles are really hilarious, so I don't really see why so many people hate them. And of course, Frollo is a great villain, and it's pretty interesting how he thinks that he's the most pious man in the world he really broke all 10 commandments and committed every deadly sin in the book. The songs in this movie are also pretty good, particularly "Bells of Notre Dame", "God Help the Outcasts" and "Hellfire". So, overall The Hunchback of Notre Dame isn't that bad of a movie. I definitely say check it out.

Hercules[]

Herc12

Zero to Hero!

Here's another one of my favorites in Disney movies. Hercules, I really enjoy and almost always watch on Netflix. I really loved the animation in this movie. Much like The Lion King, the animation really captures the tone of the setting of this movie. I always enjoyed the songs in this, and my favorite would have to either "Zero to Hero" or "Go the Distance". The main reason why I love this movie is because of how funny it is. Hades is a really fun villain. James Woods is really great at making Hades funny while also making him diabolical enough to be a great villain. Phill is also really funny with his temper and his rules. Pain and Panic are funny henchman, and are usually among the first Disney henchmen that come to my mind along with the hyenas from The Lion King. The romance between Meg and Hercules is interesting because they share real chemistry, much like Aladdin and Jasmine. So, overall Hercules is a very enjoyable flick. I say check it out and have some fun!

Mulan[]

Mulan123

The Hero of China!

My sister says that Mulan is her favorite Disney Animated film. I can very easily see why. Again, the animation of this film really captures the Chinese culture and setting of it. I also really loved the songs in this film, like "A Girl Worth Fighting For" I have on my iPod. The humor in this movie is also pretty good. Mushu was pretty funny, though my favorite characters are Yao, Ling, and Chien-Po. As I have said many times before, they remind me of the three stooges. Shan-Yu is a pretty awesome villain, and actually, he reminds me very much of Shere Khan from The Jungle Book. Mulan herself is a very likable character. She's clumsy, but has a good heart. Plus, she's brave, but she's not stupid. The action scenes are always great fun to watch. They've got just enough to keep the adult's attention, but they are never so intense that they scare the kids. My only problem with the film is one character: Chi-Fu. I really do not like that guy. I hate his treatment of Mulan and I hate his annoying voice! But, aside from that, with Mulan, I have very little to complain about. Mulan is a great movie for kids and adults of any age. See it if you haven't already.

Tarzan[]

Tarzan568

The Hero of the Jungle!

And now we come to the last film of the Disney Renaissance: Tarzan. I was around three years old when this movie came out. I saw the advertising for it everywhere! And you know what? I got excited for it! Sadly though, I didn't see it it theaters. I had to wait until it went to video. And I loved it! This movie, along with Bambi, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Mulan, The Jungle Book, 101 Dalmatians, Pinocchio, and The Aristocats is a Disney movie I would watch over and over again when my Grandma (on my mom's side) would watch me and my sister. First of all, the songs by Phil Collins are phenomenal. My favorites would be "Son of Man", "Two Worlds" and "Trashing the Camp". Tarzan and Jane are very interesting characters. Each of them have their own Unique quirks that keep the audience's attention. The animation in this movie is gorgeous! It also looks cool when Tarzan is surfing the trees. My favorite character would have to be Tantor the elephant. It is both because he is an elephant (my favorite animal) and his scaredy cat personality, which is hilarious. My only problem with The movie is that Clayton is a pretty weak villain. He's just governor Ratcliffe from Pocahontas all over again. I thought Sabor should have been the main villain, which would have been a more interesting Shere Khan-esque villain. But, aside from that, I can't think of anything else wrong with this film. This film may have been the last one of the Disney Renaissance, but at least it ended with a bang! Overall, Tarzan is a good flick. Find it on DVD, Blu-Ray, iTunes, or on Netflix and see it for yourself.

Conclusion[]

And that's all I have to say for the Disney Renaissance. What do you think should be the next era I cover? Until then, this is Tigerfan45, See ya around!
