Van Dyke is a character from Hamster & Gretel. He is a former human scientist, who accidentally turned himself into a living piece of facial hair, who can control people by attaching to people's faces.
Role in the series[]
Van Dyke first appeared in "Close Shave", posing as Mr. Chabner, a substitute teacher at Gretel's school. Gretel believes he was evil due to having a goatee, but Kevin doesn't believe her due to her "hero hunch" getting them in trouble before. She has Hamster go undercover as the class pet and try to expose him. Later, when she explains to Mr. Chabner what was going on, he captures them and Van Dyke reveals himself. He explains he was originally a human scientist who couldn't grow a beard, and tried an experiment on himself, but accidentally turned himself into a sentient goatee. He then learned he could control people by attaching himself to their faces and realized he could do the same to Gretel. He then took over Mr. Chabner and spent two weeks substituting elementary schools all over town until he found her.
After Hamster and Gretel escape the trap, they fight Van Dyke, who soon possesses Kevin, but Fred subdues him, and he is shredded.
