Vivisteria Flowers are the beautiful and exotic flowers featured in Disney/Pixar's 2023 animated feature film Elemental. They are renowned for their beauty, and ability to grow and survive in Water, Earth, Air, and even Fire habitats.
Role in the film[]
In Element City, there is a special green house that houses a tree that these remarkable flowers grow on. When Ember Lumen was little and learned that the city her parents moved to has a Vivisteria flower tree, she asks her father to let her see its flowers. When they were in line to do so, however, they were turned away for being "fire people" , the other elements fearing that their fire would end up destroying the flowers, and refusing to take that chance. Sometime later, however, the building flooded, and kept Ember from ever having the chance to see those flowers.
Although Ember never got to see them in said building, she is aware of what they look like, as shown years later when she made a glass bubble of a Vivisteria Flower. She tells Wade Ripple her story of her never being able to see them, and the feelings the water guy has for her motivates him to give Ember that chance. By placing her in an air filled bubble, and then brings her to the flooded building, where the flowers bloom and glow to the light of her fire. Ember is filled with joy as she embraces their beauty, and is happy that she has finally saw them, with help from Gale's air bubble.
The Vivisteria Flowers have a total of seventeen petals.
Vivisteria Flowers are extremely similar to lilies of The Nile, coral bells, and roses as they are a few of the flowers that are fire-resistant.
The Vivisterias symbolize Hope, Faith, Trust, Friendship, Love, and Romance.
The name "Vivisteria" is probably a combination of viola and wisteria, two different types of flowers which are also shades of purple they are named for, yet the petal design is reminiscent to that of the poinsettia, a type of flowering shrub that comes in a variety of colors, commonly coming in red, which is a vivid shade the Vivisteria is in.
The term itself also means having powerful or strong emotions, which likely refers to how the Vivisteria reflected on Ember for her personality.
