Walt Disney Cartoon Classics: Limited Gold Editions was a series of compilation videos of Disney cartoon shorts first released on 1984 in VHS and Betamax. A second series followed in 1985, which was also released on Laserdisc. (Unfortunately, the Laserdiscs of the first series were only released on Japan and are extremely hard to find.) Spun off from the similar Walt Disney Cartoon Classics series, each video contained up to seven cartoon shorts and also began with a historical introduction sequence.
In the first series, the opening sequence for all the videos was one telling a condensed story of Mickey Mouse's early years, using footage of both The Mickey Mouse Anniversary Show and Once Upon a Mouse. However, the second series had each introduction sequence directly relating to the shorts featured on the tape.
In 1985, the Limited Gold Editions I series was released on VHS in Italy and the United Kingdom. Apart from the exclusive Laserdisc releases in Japan (released there in 1986), they were also released on CAV and bilingual in that region.
