Disney Channel Wand ID

The "Wand" idents are a series of bumpers aired on Disney Channel, typically shown right before the start of a show or movie. The ID's (which debuted on June 1, 2003) typically consist of actors/actresses/cartoon characters introducing themselves by saying their names, often followed by what show or movie they are from, before saying "You're watching Disney Channel." and forming the Mickey Mouse ears with a sparkly colored wand.

The initial first batch of these idents were filmed and produced along with some new "Express Yourself" skits and bumpers and "Learning Together" skits and bumpers in 2002. The new "Express Yourself" and "Learning Together" skits featuring Disney Channel actors (wearing different clothing that would be later used in the idents themselves) aired immediately after the rebrand, while the first batch of the "Wand" series of idents (featuring Disney Channel actors wearing clothing from the "Express Yourself" and "Learning Together" bumpers) first aired in June 2003. The idents themselves were filmed in August 2002 at Storyville Pictures in Venice, California, and were edited by Guillotine Post in Atlanta, Georgia, while the logo, music, sound effects, and visual effects were added during post-production by PMcD Design in New York City, New York.

As of May 2014, the ID now features the actor/actress drawing the dot on what appears to be Mickey's head, but then it zooms out to reveal to be the "i" in "Disney" in the current Disney Channel logo. Also, the wand they use is replaced by a traditional magician's wand instead of a glow stick, and the white background (until it returned in 2018, along with the return of the glow sticks) is replaced by the various live-action locations (such as the school hallway, swimming pool and the backstage), the purple and blue backgrounds with a shining sun (as of 2016, only used for the idents of Bizaardvark and Stuck in the Middle) or the blue, light blue, turquoise and teal backgrounds with the dot of the i enlarged (part of the 2017 rebrand).

Original Wand IDs (2003-2010)

When the Wand IDs started on June 1, 2003, the original set of IDs were first aired on Disney Channel for the Bounce era. The Lizzie McGuire (Animated Lizzie's Wand ID) and Kim Possible (Kim, Ron and Rufus' Wand ID) bumpers were joined in the original set of the Wand IDs, because they are animated characters (for the first time in this set) and to be acting like the real-life Disney Channel stars.

• Dove Cameron has the most Wand IDs with 7 total IDs, not counting the Wand ID she made with Sofia Carson to promote Descendants 3.
• Miranda May, Jason Maybaum, and The Jonas Brothers are tied for having the second most Wand IDs with 6, not counting the Wand ID's made separately for Joe Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Kevin Jonas to promote Camp Rock and JONAS.
• In the 2010-2014 ID's, the Disney Channel logo was updated and fully CGI, except for CJ Adams' Wand ID and Rapunzel, Flynn, and Maximus' Wand ID, which has the effects from the 2003-2010 ID's.
• In the premiere of Descendants 2, these Wand IDs (starring the stars of Descendants) are interrupted by Uma, who says "What's my name, what's my name???" or "Hey! I'm coming for you.".
• In the premiere of Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2, Raven, Navia, Issac, Jason, Ramon, Dakota, Ruth, Kylie, Will and Mallory were interrupted by a mysterious dark place with the full moon as "We Own the Night" plays, and they've undergone a werewolf transformation and giving a howl at the end. • In Anna Cathcart's Wand ID, it has purple paint splats in the white background when Anna splattes it with her wand, as well as her generic Wand ID where the Disney Channel logo gets slimed on the screen by Anna's wand.
• In Kylie Cantrall's Wand ID (as well as the generic one), the Disney Channel logo is made in a graffiti style when Kylie is "sprayed" with her wand.

• On May 24, 2019, DisneyNOW launched a new activity on its app, entitled "Be A Disney Channel Star". This unique game on the app gives regular Disney Channel viewers and fans, along with other regular people, the ability to create their very own Wand ID.
• After K.C. Undercover aired its last episode in February 2018, Zendaya uploaded a short video on social media. That video has Zendaya in her room saying "Hey, guys. It's Zendaya here and I've just finished my last episode on Disney Channel." She then sings the jingle while drawing the mouse ears with her fingers. She then says "Looking good".
• Zendaya's ending quote "Looking good" has three times in her 2010 and 2015 Wand IDs.
• The Brenda Song ID promoting Phil of the Future was replaced in 2005 with a new Brenda Song ID (this time promoting The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, although in that 2005 ID, Brenda doesn't say the show's name in that ID, probably because the Suite Life show's name would be too long to be spoken in a 2005 Wand ID), while the other three were taken out in 2008 and replaced with the 2008-2010 Wand IDs.
• The 2005 idents have the main stars of the Suite Life of Zack and Cody only say their names followed by "You're watching Disney Channel". The reason was because the people who produced the idents probably thought that the show's name was too long to be spoken in a station ident lasting 10 seconds.
• The Christy Carlson Romano ID can also be seen on 2004-2006 airings of Even Stevens and returned on July 7, 2007 as part of the show's "Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Louis" marathon on Disney Channel, to coincide with the release of Shia LaBeouf (an actor from Even Stevens)'s film Transformers.
• In 2006, when House of Mouse was dropped on Disney Channel, the Mickey Mouse Wand ID had a new design of Mickey, based off the Playhouse Disney series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (replacing his original design based off the 2004 direct-to-video film, Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas), and this new station ident was simply used for a variety of shows and movies on the channel.
• The 2011 Spain-exclusive green background IDs for Jessie (with the purple/yellow 2010 logo) have the actors wearing the same clothes (except for Debby and Peyton) as their 2011 white background Wand IDs. This is probably because they were filmed at the same time.
  • Interestingly, Karan also wears his same clothes on the second episode of Jessie.
• The 2011 Wand IDs for Jessie have Cameron, Peyton and Skai wearing the same clothes as their show's intro.

• The 2014 Wand IDs for Dog with a Blog and Liv and Maddie and the later 2014 Wand IDs for I Didn't Do It have the actors wearing the same clothes as their previous Wand IDs. This is probably because they were filmed at the same time.
• Some scenes from the 2008 Hannah Montana New in November promo have the actors wearing the same clothes as their 2008 Wand IDs. This is probably because they were filmed at the same time.
• The 2009 Paintbrush IDs for Jonas have the actors wearing the same clothes as their 2008 Wand IDs. This is probably because they were filmed at the same time.
• The 2008 Wiztober IDs, promos, and bumpers have the actors wearing the same clothes as their 2008 Wand IDs. This is probably because they were filmed at the same time.
• The 2007 Wand IDs for Wizards of Waverly Place have the same music and colors for all IDs.
• The 2008 Wand IDs for Wizards of Waverly Place have Selena using Alex's red wand, David using Justin's brown wand, Jake using Max's white/blue wand, and Jennifer using a training wand for their IDs instead of the traditional glowsticks, as a reference to the "wizard" element of said show.
• The 2019 Wand IDs for Just Roll With It have the show's iconic foghorn sound effect after Ramon and Kaylin say their names and the show's name.

• Spencer Breslin held the record for being the youngest actor to do a Wand ID at 10 years old, while Amy Bruckner held the record for being the youngest actress to do a Wand ID at 13 years old. Amy's record was broken in 2009, when Ryan Newman did a Wand ID at almost 11 years old. Ryan's record was subsequently broken in 2010 when Mia Talerico did a Wand ID at just 2 years old. Mia Talerico is currently the youngest Disney actress, as well as the youngest Disney Channel actor overall to have done a Wand ID.
• From 2002 to 2008 and again since 2010, the Wand IDs were shot on traditional film, while from 2005 to 2010, the Wand IDs were shot on videotape.
• The earliest examples of Wand IDs filmed on videotape were the Wand IDs for The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, which were filmed on videotape in 2004. Another example that was shot on videotape was the 2007 WOWP Wand IDs.
• The live action Wand IDs that debuted in the later half of 2008, 2009, and 2010 (before the logo in the IDs became fully CGI) were all filmed on videotape rather than traditional film and were filmed back to back in 2008.
• Although the shows Sonny with a Chance, Jonas, Aaron Stone and Zeke and Luther were produced using traditional film, the 2009 Wand IDs for those shows were all filmed on videotape.
