Synopsis[]
Monica Rambeau, tasked with a special assignment regarding sentient weapons, goes missing.
Plot[]
In flashback, Monica Rambeau awakens after getting brought back to life. She discovers to her horror, that she has been gone for five years and that three years ago, her mother, Maria, had died from cancer, despite a supposedly successful recovery. Three weeks later, Monica is back at work with S.W.O.R.D. where she learns that her colleague, Tyler Hayward, has become the new director of the division. S.W.O.R.D. was formed for extraterrestrial missions by Monica's mother, Maria, but has been focusing on earth based anomalies for the time being. Monica is assigned to a "missing persons" case and is sent to New Jersey to investigate.
Monica meets up with F.B.I. agent Jimmy Woo who tells her that a town called Westview supposedly does not exist despite it obviously being in front of them. Something is preventing them from entering and Monica sends a drone to survey the area, only for it to disappear. As she gets close to the border, she breaks through the boundary and gets sucked in, resulting in Woo calling in back up from S.W.O.R.D. Numerous agents arrive and set up camp. Among them is the newly indoctrinated Darcy Lewis who picks up on "Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation" and, using a vintage television set, filters it into an image.
The agents learn about Wanda and a still living Vision are living in a sitcom environment, amusing Darcy and Woo. They send an agent in a hazmat suit to go underground through the sewers to see if he can enter. Upon doing so, his cord transforms into a useless toy rope and his suit becomes a beekeeper outfit. The agents also spot Monica and deduce that she is playing along with the world so as not to be found out. Using Darcy's television and computer, they are able to identify the other residents and later, Woo attempts to speak to Wanda by picking up the frequencies only for them to break off.
Monica aids Wanda with delivering her babies. Afterwards, when she mentions Ultron to Wanda, it is revealed that Wanda is well aware of the world around them and threatens her before expelling her back into the real world, with agents rushing to her aid as she mutters "It's Wanda". Back in Westview, Vision enters and Wanda briefly sees him as his dead husk from when Thanos had ripped the mind stone from his head. He suggests that they leave, as they can go anywhere, but Wanda refuses, telling him that this is their home now. She invites him to sit on the couch with their children as the "episode" comes to an end.
