"Welcome to Woodland Valley" is the ninety-second & ninety-third episode of Bear in the Big Blue House. It aired on September 9, 2002.
Overview[]
A tragic event has happened in Woodland Valley: a tree has fallen and ruined part of the village library. Everyone's upset about it, but the entire Woodland Valley community is pulling together to help out. When the kids of the Big Blue House, including Harry, find out, they decide to help in their own way. Viewers explore more of Woodland Valley than they've ever seen before, visiting the library, the post office, the general store and the mouse school that Tutter will be attending, among other locations.
The next day, the plans are coming together for a potluck dinner Bear is holding. Everyone will get together at the Big Blue House, eat good food and talk about solutions to fix up the library. The kids are hard at work collecting books to restore the library's collection. And Doc Hogg is getting down to business as to just what to do about the tree currently occupying a large portion of the library. He wants to remove it, chop it up and use it for firewood to heat all of Woodland Valley, but Ojo discovers possums who live in the tree. When the others discover the possums, they decide not to remove the tree. So they try to figure out something else.

Notes[]
- This episode was created partly as a response to the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks of September 11, 2001. Though there is no reference to the specific events, the episode uses the theme of a building being destroyed and a community coming together.[1]
- Beginning with this episode, the opening sequence, theme, and closing sequence are changed. The opening sequence and theme now take viewers on a short tour of Woodland Valley before finishing at the Big Blue House.
- This episode takes place after the events of A Berry Bear Christmas.
- Shadow does not appear in Part 1 of the special, but at the beginning of Part 2.
- Brad Garrett and Gilbert Gottfried voice the Possums in the second half of the two part special and receive a "With" credit. They had previously appeared on Hollywood Squares with Bear.
- The sound clip of Shadow's laugh is used in "Appreciation Day", "The Great Bandini", "Big Blue Home of the Brave", "A Trip to the General Store", "The View from You", "To Clean or Not to Clean", "Grandma Flutter's 100th Birthday", "Volunteers of Woodland Valley", and "This is Your Life, Bear".
- Starting with this episode, Shadow's appearance is less frequent than previous episodes, where she was seen in almost every episode. It was never explained why. This is also the first time when she appears within the first five minutes of the episode.
- Starting with this episode, Ray has been redesigned for the rest of the show. This is also the last episode where Bear talks to him.
- The 2003 VHS and DVD release that contained this episode and Part 2 features a unique segue into Part 2 that cuts out the "Goodbye Song", going straight into Bear turning off the light, and skipping the theme song (and removing the title card) for Part 2.[2] This was changed in the 2005 DVD release, which featured both episodes separately.
- This is the first episode to be produced by Erica Levin.
