West Side Story is an upcoming 2020 live-action musical film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner. It is an adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical of the same name, a remake of the 1961 live-action film adaptation of the same name and was inspired by Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. It is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2020 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures under the 20th Century Fox banner.

Synopsis

The film will attempt to return to the roots of the original 1957 Broadway version instead of the 1961 film adaptation.[3] Tony and Maria fell madly in love with each other in New York City set in the 1950s, but they had associations with competing street gangs, the Jets and the Sharks.
