Where's My Water? 2 is a puzzle video game developed by Creature Feep and published by Disney Mobile, a subsidiary of Disney Interactive. The sequel to the first Where's My Water? game, it features new adventures of the three alligator characters, Swampy, Cranky, and Allie throughout the game in different worlds in collecting rubber ducks to progress through new worlds and was released on September 12, 2013.
As of version 1.9.1 released in 2020, the game's publishing rights were later transferred to Kongregate[1]. The other Disney games whose publishing rights were transferred to Kongregate are Maleficent Free Fall and Inside Out: Thought Bubbles.
Gameplay[]
The gameplay uses the same mechanics that were used in the first game where the player must deliver the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie. Located somewhere on the level is a supply of fluid for each of the three alligators, either a finite amount pooled at various locations or an infinite amount flowing from a pipe. Like in the first game, players use the touch screen on their device to dig through the dirt and redirect the fluid toward an inlet leading to Swampy, Cranky, or Allie (water to fill Swampy's bathtub, poison to remove the algae from Cranky's food, or steam to help tune in Allie's music machine). Occasionally, the fluid must be routed through other pipes or must interact with machines in order to open up a route to the inlet. When the required amount of correct fluid reaches each alligator, the level is completed and the next level is unlocked. Also scattered around the level are three rubber ducks that can be collected when they absorb an amount of fluid (also required to unlock gates in later worlds; however, some gates leading to further worlds require a certain amount of keys to unlock (the player must open all the remaining gates requiring ducks to pass before they receive the option to obtain keys to open gates leading to further worlds), which are obtained either by watching ads for free or through in-app purchases through the use of real-world money). Select levels also include items hidden in the dirt that will place hidden items throughout each world when collected.
Also in the game is a new feature known as power-ups, which the player can purchase to help them finish difficult levels to help them collect ducks. There are three types of power-ups in the game: Vacuum, Dropper, and Absorber. The Vacuum power up allows all sorts of ducks to pull their fluids to them (however, they can still pull hazardous fluid types which destroy them when touched if the Absorber power-up is not enabled). The Dropper power-up starts the level with all the ducks almost filled, giving the ducks only a few more drops of correct fluid for the player to collect. The Absorber power-up allows all rubber duck types to accept all fluids (however, the player will still need to restart the level upon giving the wrong fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie, because even if the player has used the Absorber in some levels, the player must still deliver the correct fluid to either one of them; additionally, explosions caused by mines can still destroy all types of rubber ducks even if the player has Absorber enabled). Besides the power-ups, visual hints are also available in case the player has a hard time completing difficult levels.
Besides basic levels, some levels also include Duck Rush levels, a new mode exclusive to the sequel to the first game. Unlike in regular levels where the player must bring the fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie, Duck Rush levels are different than the regular ones as the screen automatically moves where the player must bring the fluid to either one of them as fast as they can or the level will need to be restarted. The player can collect ducks along the way to complete the level, but must navigate their way into avoiding different types of hazards. The player then must lead at least one drop of correct fluid towards the inlet to complete the Duck Rush level.
Challenges[]
Throughout the game aside from the basic levels, there are several challenge levels (similar to the ones in the first game) that the player will find throughout the game at the same levels but these levels themselves become modified making the game a bit more difficult for players to finish (especially when it comes to the case of the player aiming to collect all three ducks on challenges where they can collect them depending on which challenge they are playing). These challenges, upon completion, also help the player collect more ducks required to unlock other worlds and open gates blocking the player's path. Additionally, completing all the challenges as well as completing the levels in their standard modes in each word can also help the player earn a special rubber duck in their duck collection.
- Avoid It!: Players must complete the level without collecting any ducks, similar to the one in the first game but unlike in the first game, the rubber ducks are given a "No" symbol which indicate that the player must avoid collecting. If any duck is collected with the correct fluid in "Avoid It!" challenges, the player must restart the challenge. Like in regular mode, ducks in "Avoid It!" challenges are still vulnerable to hazardous fluid types (including explosions caused by mines) which can destroy them, but it will not count as being collected, allowing the player to continue finding a way to complete the challenge. Once an "Avoid It!" challenge is completed, all three ducks are automatically collected for the player, despite not having the ducks themselves being absorbed with the correct fluid even though the player has delivered the correct fluid depending on the alligator being highlighted.
- Upside Down: The player must complete the level albeit with the guide altered upside-down. Unlike in basic levels, the player must create an alternate way to collect rubber ducks as well as deliver the correct fluids to Swampy, Cranky, or Allie, due to the level being upside-down in these challenges, making the game a bit more difficult.
- Driller: The player can dig through rocks in addition to digging through the dirt to bring the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie, but must avoid interacting with a certain element (which is marked by a "No" symbol) that can normally be done in normal mode. Certain levels featuring Driller challenges feature different elements depending on what level the player is at. Driller challenges were not present in the first game.
- In most levels with Driller challenges, the player must either avoid luring any type of fluid into switches and/or drains used to reach hard-to-reach areas. If any fluid interacts with these elements, the challenge must be restarted.
- Occasionally, Driller levels also include a mission where the player can dig through rocks, but must avoid interacting with pipes which can either launch fluids in hard-to-reach areas or spouts producing an unlimited amount of fluid which could normally be used to help complete the level faster in normal gameplay. If any of these marked with a "No" symbol is interacted with, the challenge must be restared.
- Some levels with Driller challenges may occasionally include a mission where players can dig through rocks to bring the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie but must avoid collecting ducks marked with a "No" symbol similar to the mechanic used in "Avoid It!" challenges in case there are no switches or drains present in levels with "Driller" challenges. Just like in "Avoid It!" challenges if any duck in some "Driller" challenges is collected with the correct fluid, the player must restart the challenge. However, "Avoid It!" challenges do not have rocks to dig through, unlike in "Driller" challenges which have these elements. Driller challenges where ducks are marked with a "No" symbol are still vulnerable to hazardous fluid types (including explosions caused by mines) which can destroy them, but it will not count as being collected, allowing the player to continue finding a way to complete the challenge and like in "Avoid It!" challenges, all three ducks are automatically collected for the player, despite not having the ducks themselves being absorbed with the correct fluid even though the player has delivered the correct fluid depending on the alligator being highlighted.
- Rarely, Driller challenges in select levels also give the player a mission to complete the level without having explosions occurring (similar to the one of Cranky's challenges in Level 4-16 of Swampy's story from the first game where the player must complete the level but with no explosions which is accessible when the player has purchased Cranky's story from said game) which are either caused by mines (which on occasions, the player must avoid interacting with them in occasional Driller challenges) or a mix between poison and ooze together. If an explosion occurs in any Driller challenge where the player must complete with no explosions, the player must restart the challenge. Additionally, rare occasions give the player a mission to avoid letting drops of fluid interact with bombs marked with a "No" symbol in Driller challenges.
- Very rarely, Driller challenges present a mission where the player must avoid interacting with everything marked with a "No" symbol in one level (switches, drains, taps, spouts, ducks, and bombs), making the level difficult for the player to complete.
- Melody: Like in Allie's Story in the first game, the player must deliver the correct type of fluid (depending on the alligator being highlighted in each level) to each musical note in order (red, orange, green, blue, and purple). The player fails the challenge if they collect the wrong note in order or if any note (especially the correct one being highlighted) is destroyed by hazardous fluid types or explosions, causing the player to restart the challenge. Even after the player collects all the musical notes in order, they still must deliver the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie to complete the challenge. Additionally if the player has the Absorber power-up enabled, they must deliver the fluid to the highlighted note in order rather than having the fluid being delivered to the wrong note; otherwise, the challenge will need to be restarted, and thus can waste an Absorber power-up.
- Guest Star: A modified level using the same map as the basic level but with a different alligator (either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie) in place of the one in the basic level where the player must use a different type of fluid depending on the alligator highlighted (example: playing a Cranky level as a Swampy level, or playing a Swampy level as an Allie level or vice versa). Additionally, the rubber ducks themselves will be modified to match the alligators being highlighted, so the player must pay attention to the rubber ducks requiring different fluids as well as the alligator being highlighted.
- Duck Swap: Similar to the challenges in the first game, the player must complete the level but with different ducks requiring different fluids (example: playing a Swampy level but with Cranky ducks, or playing an Allie level but with Swampy ducks or vice versa). However, even though "Duck Swap" challenges featured alternate ducks, the player must pay attention to each alligator being highlighted in order to give them the correct fluid.
Mystery Duck[]
Occasionally throughout the game, the Mystery Duck from the first game can appear in select levels (especially in select levels which the player has not unlocked yet) to give the player an optional challenge. The player must collect it by using the correct fluid at least three times to collect a special rubber duck in the rubber duck collection.
The Mystery Duck in Where's My Water? 2 has three special variants which happen randomly depending on which level the player chooses:
- Mystery Duck: The regular variant of the Mystery Duck. Like in the first game, the Mystery Duck moves all across the level in various spots, making it a bit difficult to collect. The player must collect it with the correct fluid whether playing on a Swampy, Cranky, or Allie level and then deliver the correct fluid depending on which alligator is being highlighted. If the Mystery Duck is destroyed by harmful fluid types or by explosions, the level must be restarted, even when the player delivers the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie without collecting the Mystery Duck.
- Mega Duck: A heavy variant of the Mystery Duck which requires more fluid to collect like in the first game. Like in the first game, the Mega Duck remains stationary on the spot where it appears, but does not move unlike its regular variant. The player must collect it with the correct fluid whether playing on a Swampy, Cranky, or Allie level and then deliver the correct fluid depending on which alligator is being highlighted albeit requiring more fluid to collect than its regular counterpart. If the Mega Duck is destroyed by harmful fluid types or by explosions, the level must be restarted, even when the player delivers the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie without collecting the Mega Duck.
- Ducklings: Various ducklings that appear scattered throughout the level. Like in the first game, the player must collect all the ducklings with the correct fluid type fluid whether playing on a Swampy, Cranky, or Allie level and then deliver the correct fluid depending on which alligator is being highlighted; each of them takes one drop of fluid just like in the first game. If any duckling is destroyed by harmful fluid types or by explosions, the level must be restarted, even when the player delivers the correct fluid to either Swampy, Cranky, or Allie without collecting all the ducklings.
After the player has collected the Mystery Duck, it disappears and the player must wait for the Mystery Duck to appear in a random level. If the player chooses to leave the level even when the player has chosen to accept the challenge, the Mystery Duck will "leave" and the player must wait again for it to appear in a random level. Collecting the Mystery Duck will not count towards the gates requiring a certain amount of ducks to unlock new sets of levels in later worlds. Additionally, the Mystery Duck does not appear in Duck Rush levels and only appears in regular levels. The Mystery Duck also stops appearing in random levels if the player has all the rubber ducks collected upon completing Mystery Duck challenges in their rubber duck collection.
Notable Changes[]
- In the logo, the question mark is now the same font as the "water" part of the logo and the "2" takes the original question mark design.
- When the game made its debut, the main menu is a loading screen, simply showing either a picture of Swampy Allie and Cranky, or Cranky holding Swampy and Allie.
- Currently the main menu animated, Swampy Allie and Cranky show each other and the player their antics. Also, players can also tap them to also show their antics as well. Swampy Allie and Cranky themselves are positioned much like a family trio.
- Cutscenes are videos rather the having a picture be panned.
- Both stories and chapters are replaced with locations. Each characters levels are mixed in these locations.
- The game contains ads due to it being free.
- Challenges are stretched across the entire game.
- The game was compatible with Facebook, but this functionally was later removed as of the Kongregate update.
- Players can personalize themselves with "duckies"
- Boosts can be earned and purchased to enhance the game experience.
- Swampy is redesigned and has a younger appearance, his actions show that he is more playful and somewhat childish. Allie and Cranky on the other hand are virtually identical to their original counterparts, they both tend to be somewhat "mature".
- Allie has a different sounding voice compared to the previous game. She is more fearful than aggressive and seems to take interest in her looks.
- Cranky has a less aggressive personality because he and Swampy aren't enemies anymore but stills has many of his original traits though, such as being lazy, bossy and disrespectful. He also has a pet crab, only appearing in the main menu or at the beach.
- Aside from appearing in Allie levels, Melody challenges now appear in Cranky and Swampy levels, unlike in the first game where it only appears in Allie levels. Additionally, the musical notes now require a correct amount fluid to be collected whether the player has selected a Swampy, Cranky, or Allie level.
- Aside from appearing in Swampy levels, the Mystery Duck now appears in Cranky and Allie levels, unlike in the first game where it only appears in Swampy levels. Additionally, the Mystery Duck has a different design depending each level having a Swampy, Cranky, or Allie theme.
Trivia[]
- Unlike in the first game (not including spin-offs such as Where's My Perry?, Where's My Mickey? or any other seasonal spin-offs), Where's My Water? 2 does not feature any separate in-app purchase story modes where the player must purchase them with real-world money. This is the first game in the series to not have any separate in-app purchase story modes.
- The Pink Truffle, a collectible pink parasol item that can be found in Level 65 of the Bayou world, has a striking resemblance to the parasol used by Sally Slater, the Tightrope Walker from the Haunted Mansion attraction at the Disney Parks. Coincidentally in the Haunted Mansion attraction itself, the portrait of the Tightrope Walker in the attraction itself depicts an alligator below her attempting to devour her on one of the portraits from the Stretching Room scene.
- Prior to the Version 1.1.0 update released in 2013, the game's original release initially included an energy system where players had to wait a certain amount of time for their energy to be completely filled once the energy is used on a level they choose to play. Starting in Version 1.1.0, the energy system has been completely removed, no longer requiring the player to wait for a certain amount of time to play any level.
- When the player updated to this version, it showed an animation of Cranky devouring the energy meter to represent this feature being discontinued due to negative reception regarding the game's energy system, followed by a message telling the player about the energy system that was already discontinued in this update. Players who purchased the expanded energy meter prior to this update received two Monster Bundles for free. The Monster Bundles given for the player who purchased the expanded energy meter prior to the 1.1.0 update consisted of extra hints and power-ups.
