"Who Better than Me" is a song from Tarzan: The Musical. It is first sung in Act One when Terk (who is male in this adaptation) decides to train a juvenile Tarzan. In it, Tarzan reveals his need for assistance to go far. Later, it is reprised in Act Two when Tarzan has to lead the humans to the gorillas, but intends to have Terk lure Kerchak away.
Lyrics[]
Terk: You're one of a kind.
I can't explain it.
You're kind of cool in a wonderful way.
Though you're weird,
You can make it.
And who better than me
To teach you?
Who better than me
To set you on your way.
This could take
Some hangin' in there
Though with persuasion, I could take you on up.
Make you grow up beside the others.
And who better than me
To lead you?
Who better than me
To take you all the way.
Terk & Young Tarzan: Strugglin' along for years and years.
Terk: Until I came along for you.
Now it's all comin' together
And
Terk & Young Tarzan: Together we'll see this through,
You for me and me for you.
Young Tarzan: I can learn.
I can listen.
I know there's something deep inside, but
I need assistance
To go the distance.
Terk: And who better than me
Young Tarzan: To teach me?
Terk: Who better than me?
Young Tarzan: To tell me all you know?
Terk: Who better than me?
Young Tarzan: You reach me.
Terk: Who better than me
Terk & Young Tarzan: To show them all we know?
Oh!
Terk: Ooh, you need a friend
Some timely intervention
Some tough love to save you from yourself.
So it's me to
Get your attention.
'Cause who better than me
To save you?
Who better than me
To make you change your mind?
There's no doubt,
You're not controlling your emotions.
You're hard-headed and stubborn too.
There's no one else
With my devotion.
So who better than me
To show you?
Who better than me
To convince you you're wrong.
Tarzan: Terk, listen.
My eyes are wide open.
I'm seeing clear.
I feel so alive.
For once I'm happy to be me.
And it feels good.
Oh, yes, it feels good.
Terk: With the eyes and the tender persuasion,
I feel a duty to help you through.
And though I still can't
See the attraction,
Who better than me?
(Tarzan: Nobody but you.)
Terk: Who better than me?
(Tarzan: May take this all the way.)
Terk: Who better than me?
(Tarzan: To help me.)
Terk: Who better than me
Terk & Tarzan: To make this dream come true?
Terk: Who better than me
To help him?
Who better than me
To put a smile on his face?
Who better than me,
His best friend?
Who better than me
To make his dreams come true?
Ohhhhhhhh, yeah!
