The Wild Monkeys are characters from the Sindbad's Storybook Voyage attraction at Tokyo DisneySea.
Background[]
They are a group of monkeys who live in the Land of the Monkeys, an island whose exact location is unknown during Sindbad's voyage. They are shown to have a hostile attitude to visitors who enter their territory led by their ruler, the Monkey King. As advised by the Sultan of India, those who enter the Land of the Monkeys must proceed with caution, especially when dealing with the monkeys, due to their rambunctious behavior on the island.
Development History[]
When Tokyo DisneySea opened in September 4, 2001, the "Sindbad's Storybook Voyage" attraction opened as "Sindbad's Seven Voyages" where the Land of the Monkeys was one of the scenes which Sindbad and his crew were encountering. However, the attraction was very unpopular with guests at this time due to its scary theme and its storyline. After the attraction closed in 2006 and reopened in 2007 as "Sindbad's Storybook Voyage", the storyline was toned down with Sindbad and his pet tiger Chandu where Sindbad visits this location albeit making peace with the monkeys.
Role in the attraction[]
Pre-2007 revamp[]
Following a warning given out by the Sultan of India, Sindbad and his crew sail across the Land of the Monkeys across a faraway island, warning Sindbad about the dangers in the island. Just as they arrive, the Monkey King and his fellow monkeys become very angry and started attacking Sindbad and his crew. They started attacking them with rocks and spears in the form of an ambush. However, Sindbad and his crew manage to escape from the ambush and end up into the Whale Straits.
Post-2007 revamp[]
When Sindbad encounters the Sultan, he advices him to use the instruments to charm the monkeys causing havoc at a faraway village, warning him to be careful with the monkeys. The monkeys and their leader the Monkey King prepare to attack, but their attack were halted when they listen to music. Thanks to the drum that the Sultan gave to Sindbad, he was able to make peace with the monkeys to calm them down just before leaving the island where he encounters a living island which is revealed to be none other than a giant whale.
