William Gale "Will" Vinton was an American stop-motion animator best known for what he called Claymation. He and his studio, Will Vinton Studios (now known as Laika), were best known for such projects as the California Raisins, the Noid, and the 1985 film The Adventures of Mark Twain.

In the 1980s, Will Vinton and his team were commissioned by Disney for special effects work on film projects such as Return to Oz (where he would provide the claymation for the Nome King and his Nomes) and Captain EO (the robot transforming effects in the "We Are Here to Change the World" sequence).
