"Windy and the Windmills" is a Schoolhouse Rock! Earth song. The song focuses on wind power.

Song Lyrics[]

Windy: Hi there, everybody
I just blew in to tell you
Burning all those fossil fuels
is fouling up your air
It's that old oil addiction
And according to predictions
If you don't fix this condition,
Earth is headed who-knows-where
But I've got one clean answer
You can find most anywhere
It's me, the wind. You can feel it right now
Blowing in your hair

Female Kites: The winds of change are blowing
And it's time that we got going

Windy: You can use me and reuse me
And I won't pollute your air.
All I need's a partner
To help solve this mess you're in.
So meet my friend the windmill,
And watch me take him for a spin.
Now I've been spinning windmills
Since ancient history.
Persians put us both to work
250 years B.C.
Crusaders and the Romans
Saw the work that we could do
And soon windmills were sprouting up
Wherever strong winds blew

Windmill: When my friend the wind
Spins me round and round and round
My turbines turn and spin out power
They're generating lots and lots of megawatts
To send through my tower

A watt's a measurement of electrical energy. It takes 40 watts to light this bulb. A thousand watts is called a kilowatt. The meter on your house counts kilowatts by the hour, and the average house uses 6- to 9,000 kilowatt hours a year.

Windy: Now, windmills hook up to a grid
To share their energy
Along with lots of other plants
That makes electricity
Most power plants within the grid
Burn fossil fuels like coal
They're making so much soot and smoke
We gotta set new goals

Female Kites: The winds of change are blowing
And it's time that we got going

Windy: You can use me and reuse me
And I won't pollute your air.
The reason I'm reliable is
That star we call the sun
He heats me up and cools me down
And keeps me on the run
Easterlies, westerlies
Chinooks and Santa Annas
Offshore winds, onshore winds
Sometimes I go bananas
Heat that once escaped to space
Is trapped by greenhouse gases
The CO2 and waste builds up
And Earth gets no free passes
One result of global warming
Is warmer ocean water
So hurricanes and other storms
Get bigger than they ought to

Windy and Windmill: If everyone in every house
Took care to save some watts
We'd cut all this pollution down
By lots and lots and lots
Get all your friends to join you
And make sure they do their part
And we'll keep making energy
That's cleaner from the start

Female Kites: The winds of change are blowing
And it's time that we got going

Windy: You can use me and reuse me

Female Kites: You can use him and reuse him

Windy: You can use me and reuse me

Female Kites: You can use him and reuse him
