The Witches' Road is a fictional location featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the Disney+ series, Agatha All Along.
The legendary Witches' Road, was originally a myth, perpetuated by the witch, Agatha Harkness, as a ruse in order to lure other witches and steal their magic. Once a coven was gathered and a ballad was sung, it was thought that the door to the road would magically appear. It was reputed as a gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. It was considered a death wish, testing those who walk down it, with their worst nightmares and their knowledge of the craft.
The Witches' Road was made into a reality when Billy Maximoff inadvertently brought it to life with his powers of reality-control. As a creation of his mind, the road's appearance and trials took influence from Billy's subconscious. Billy realised when he returned home that he created the road as he looked around his bedroom and saw items that resemble what happened on the road. When Agatha offered to help Billy find his brother, Billy closed the road with this powers and created a tribute to the deceased members of the coven - Sharon Davis, Alice Wu-Gulliver, and Lilia Calderu - as the road was left behind for good.
The Witches' Road was originally created by writer James Robinson and artists Steve Dillon and Chris Visions.
Trivia[]
- The road was first established in the 2016 Scarlet Witch comic series, which also introduces Agatha Harkness returning as a ghost like the finale of Agatha All Along. In the comics, however, the witches road was another realm which was shared by several different witches and not a myth, like in the series where it was not real until Billy made it real from his powers.
