"With a Smile and a Song" is a song featured in the first Disney animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was written by Frank Churchill, the lyrics by Larry Morey. It was published in 1937. Credit is also sometimes (e.g.) given to Leigh Harline. In the film, Snow White sings it to the forest animals as she befriends them.
This song was included on the Disney's Sing Along Songs video "Fun With Music".
The song is featured in Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire, as a dance in celebration of friendship.
The song makes a cameo of sorts, on the show Once Upon a Time, as Snow White hums the song while cleaning the Seven Dwarfs' cottage.
Lyrics[]
(spoken)
Please, don't run away! I won't hurt you!
I'm awfully sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you.
But you don't know what I've been through.
And all because I was afraid...
I'm so ashamed of this fuss I've made.
What do you do when things go wrong?
(Bird twitters a tune)
Oh! You sing a song!
(sung)
With a smile and a song,
Life is just like a bright sunny day.
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young.
With a smile and a song,
All the world seems to waken anew.
Rejoicing with you
As the song is sung.
There's no use in grumbling
When raindrops come tumbling.
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with sunshine.
When you smile and you sing,
Everything is in tune and it's spring.
And life flows along
With a smile and a song.
(spoken)
I really feel quite happy now.
I'm sure I'll get along somehow.
Everything's going to be alright.
But I do need a place to sleep at night.
Oh, [giggles] I can't sleep on the ground like you,
Or in a tree the way you do.
And I'm sure no nest could possibly be big enough for me.
Maybe you know where I can stay.
In the woods somewhere? (birds tweet)
You do? (birds tweet) Will you take me there?
Don't let little worries grieve you.
If you'll wear a smile,
You'll discover that they'll leave you
In a little while.
Don't let little clouds upset you,
Start right in to sing.
Don't let little showers fret you,
They don't mean a thing.
With a smile and a song,
Life is just like a bright sunny day.
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young.
With a smile and a song,
All the world seems to waken anew.
Rejoicing with you
As the song is sung.
There's no use in grumbling
When raindrops come tumbling.
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with sunshine.
When you smile and you sing
Everything is in tune and it's spring.
And life flows along
With a smile and a song.
