"You Can Fly" (also called "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!") is a song from Walt Disney's Peter Pan. It is completely sung by the Jud Conlon Chorus and the Mellomen. It was sung during Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, and Tinker Bell's flight to Neverland.
The song is the titular song for the tape Disney Sing Along Songs: You Can Fly!, and was also featured on Disney Sing Along Songs: Collection of All Time Favorites: The Magic Years and Disney Sing Along Songs: From Hercules.
The song was also made into a music video on DTV, which aired on the Disney Channel, and set to footage of Disney animation, including not just Peter Pan, but also Pluto's Fledgling, It's Tough to Be a Bird, The Night Before Christmas, Santa's Workshop, The Plastics Inventor, The Flying Jalopy, The Mail Pilot, The Pelican and the Snipe, The Three Caballeros, Dumbo, The Flying Squirrel, and The Wind in the Willows segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
The song was used as the main theme for the Magic Kingdom Club Gold Card: Update '95 video, with a slower instrumental version being used for the segments focusing on Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom.
In the House of Mouse episode "Donald Wants to Fly", Peter sings a version of the song with different lyrics to help Donald Duck learn to fly.
A short version of the song was featured in Mickey's PhilharMagic, starting when Peter and Tinkerbell land on Big Ben, followed by the Sorcerer Hat and Donald Duck, who landed so hard that everyone gets catapulted into the sky.
An instrumental version is played in Tinker Bell on the music box that Tinker Bell repairs and returns to Wendy.
Lyrics[]
Spoken:
Wendy: But, Peter, how do we get to Never Land?
Peter: Fly, of course!
Wendy: Fly?
Peter: It's easy! All you have to do is to...is to...is to—Ha! That's funny.
Wendy: What's the matter? Don't you know?
Peter: Oh sure, it's, it's just that I never thought about it before.
Say, that's it! You think of a wonderful thought!
John and Wendy: Any happy little thought?
Peter: Uh-huh.
Wendy: Like toys at Christmas?
John: Sleigh bells? Snow?
Peter: Yep! Watch me now — here I go!
It's easier than pie!
Wendy: He can fly!
John: He can fly!
Michael: He flew!
Peter: Now, you try
Wendy: I'll think of a mermaid lagoon
Oh—underneath a magic moon
John: I'll think I'm in a pirate's cave
Michael: I'll think I'll be an Injun brave
Peter: Now, everybody try
All: One, two, three!
Children: We can fly! We can fly! We can fly!
Peter: This won't do
What's the matter with you?
All it takes is faith and trust
Oh! And something I forgot—dust!
Wendy & John: Dust?
Michael: Dust?
Peter: Yep! Just a little bit of pixie dust.
Now, think of the happiest things.
It's the same as having wings
Wendy: Let's all try it, just once more
John: Look! We're rising off the floor
Michael: Jiminy!
Wendy: Oh my!
We can fly!
Peter: You can fly!
Children: We can fly!
Peter: Come on, everybody, here we gooooooo!
Off to Never Land!
Chorus:
Think of a wonderful thought,
Any merry little thought,
Think of Christmas, think of snow, think of sleigh bells,
Off you go, like reindeer in the sky!
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Think of the happiest things,
It's the same as having wings,
Take the path that moonbeams make,
If the moon is still awake,
You'll see him wink his eye
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Off you go with a Heigh and Ho
To the stars beyond the blue
There's a Never Land waiting for you
Where all your happy dreams come true
Every dream that you dream will come true
Michael (spoken): Come on, Nana!
When there's a smile in your heart
There's no better time to start
Think of all the joy you'll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares good-bye
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
Peter (spoken): There it is, Wendy, second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning.
When there's a smile in your heart
There's no better time to start
Think of all the joy you'll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares good-bye
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
When there's a smile in your heart
There's no better time to start
Think of all the joy you'll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares good-bye
You can fly!
You can fly!
You can fly!
Think of the presents you're brought,
Any merry little thought,
Think of Christmas, think of snow, think of sleigh bells,
Here we go, like reindeer in the sky
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Think of the happiest things,
That's the way to get your wings
Now you own a candy store,
Look - you're rising off the floor,
Don't wonder how or why
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Soon, you'll zoom all around the room
All it takes is faith and trust
But the thing that's a positive must
Is a little bit of pixie dust
The dust is a positive must
When there's a smile in your heart
There's no better time to start
It's a very simple plan
You can do what birdies can
At least, it's worth a try
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Peter Pan:
Now don't be a chicken! You're a duck!
If you wanna learn to fly, you're in luck.
All you have to do is trust me.
Okay, Tinkerbell, pixie dust me!
Just think of a wonderful thought
Donald:
Any happy little thought?
Peter:
Like sailing on the ocean blue
Or Daisy Duck in love with you
And in the blink of an eye
You can fly!
Donald:
I can fly!
Lost Boys:
He can fly!
Peter:
You can fly!
Donald:
I can... (crashes into a pillar)
Aw, nuts!
Peter:
All right! Get off the floor!
Let's try it once more!
Just lift your tail and your beak
Now you're aerodynamic
You can soar to dizzying heights
And finally see your name in lights
Captain Hook:
Hey, there's a duck in the sky!
Donald:
I can fly!
Goofy:
You can fly!
Donald:
I can fly!
Horace:
You can fly!
Donald:
I can fly!
All:
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly!
Peter: Well, think of a wonderful thought!
Dr. Greenaway: Any happy little thought?
Peter: Uh-huh.
Like toys at Christmas!
Sleigh bells! Snow!
Watch me now — here I go!
Sailing through the sky
I can fly
I can fly
I can fly!
Think of the happiest things,
It's the same as having wings,
Think of paths that moonbeams make,
If the moon is still awake,
You'll see him wink his eye
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly
You can fly!
Peter: Come on, everybody, here we gooooooo!
Chorus:
Think of a wonderful thought,
Any merry little thought,
Think of Christmas, think of snow, think of sleigh bells,
Off you go, like reindeer in the sky!
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Think of the happiest things,
It's the same as having wings,
Take the path that moonbeams make,
If the moon is still awake,
You'll see him wink his eye
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly!!!
Off you go with a Heigh and Ho
To the stars beyond the blue
There's a Never Land waiting for you (Never Land waiting for you)
Where all your happy dreams come true
When there's a smile in your heart
There's no better time to start
Think of all the joy you'll find
When you leave the world behind
And bid your cares good-bye
You can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly, you can fly!
