Yuuken Enma is a very principled young man with a strong sense of responsibility and duty. While he was caught off guard by his sudden transportation to Night Raven College, he was quick to adapt to his new surroundings and immediately gained insight to the kind of world he was in. He is also shown to not be all that phased by supernatural creatures as upon seeing Grim, he thought he was a tanuki and was quite pleased at the idea of being able to see ghosts. Yuu is also pretty selfless, rescuing and helping others when necessary and is good at being able to lead others into using what they are good at to their advantage.
Physical appearance[]
Yuuken Enma is a Japanese teenage boy of average height with short messy black hair that has a noticeable blue shine to it. He is commonly seen wearing his school uniform which consists of a white dress shirt, a blue tie, a green jacket with the symbol of his school on it, dark plaid-colored pants, and black dress shoes.
Abilities[]
Yuuken Enma lacks magical abilities, but he makes up for it by being physically fit. He is shown to be capable of keeping up with Ashton Vargas's intense physical training, as a matter of fact he seems to be the only one who can, and is shown to be well skilled in kendo.
Yuuken's name for short is Yuu. This is a nod to the fact that he is meant to represent the audience surrogate and thus represents "you".
He does not have magic abilities, yet is able to bring creatures such as Grim under his control through patience and determination. Because of this, he has been labeled as a Beast Tamer.
The residents of Night Raven College apparently have trouble pronouncing his name.
His name has several meanings. His first name translates to "Hero/Sword", a nod to the fact the he is the protagonist and is a master at kendo which uses a sword-like weapon. His last name is a reference to the Buddhist deity Enma who rules hell and judges those in the afterlife.
On Paul Castro Jr.'s podcast, Jonathan Ha admitted that he was well-aware that Yuuken was not the most popular character in the series.
