Zooey Claire Deschanel-Pechenik (born January 17, 1980) is an American actress, model, singer-songwriter and musician who is best known for her supporting film roles, such as Jovie in Elf, and Summer Finn in (500) Days of Summer, and for her television role as Jessica "Jess" Day on the Fox sitcom New Girl since 2011. She is also the younger sister of actress Emily Deschanel.

She played Nessa Watkins in the 1999 Touchstone Pictures film Mumford, Lady Larkin in the 2005 ABC musical television film Once Upon A Mattress, Jenny Herk in the 2002 Touchstone Pictures film Big Trouble, Trillian in the 2005 Disney film The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and Ms. Edmunds in the 2007 fantasy film, Bridge to Terabithia. She also provided songs for Disney's 2011 animated feature film, Winnie the Pooh.
